The Metaroom Scan App makes it easy to capture multi-floor spaces in a single scanning session. Whether you’re scanning a two-floor house or an entire building, all you need to do is scan room by room – floor by floor – using the multi-room scanning functionality.
Before you start scanning multiple floors
To ensure smooth and accurate scanning of multiple floors, please keep in mind the following recommendations:
- Make sure that the Tracking Assistant feature in the Metaroom Scan App is enabled. It provides real-time feedback on your movements and environmental conditions to ensure a more accurate scan.
- Hold the device upright at all times, even when walking between rooms or floors. The camera uses SLAM tracking to stitch rooms in cohesive 3d model.
- Keep the camera lens clear and avoid covering it during movement between rooms or floors.
- Close doors where possible to help the app define room boundaries more precisely.
- Maintain steady movement and scan in a circular path to “close the loop” before finishing a room section.
- Make a plan of how you want to scan your space and think about the order of your scan sections to not miss anything, especially in large space areas.
How do I scan multiple floors?
Here is step-by-step guide on how to scan multiple floors with the Metaroom Scan
- Open the Metaroom Scan App on your iPhone Pro or iPad Pro.
- Tap “Add Scan” to begin a new project.
- Start scanning the first room on the ground floor. Move slowly, keep your distance from walls and furniture, and scan all corners.
- Once you’ve finished scanning the first room, tap “Finish Section”.
- On the review screen, check that all key elements are visible. Tap “Rescan” if you are not satisfied with the result of current room scanning, or “Add Section” to scan the next room on the same floor.
- Repeat this process for all remaining rooms on the floor.
- Once you’ve finished scanning all rooms on the current floor, tap “Add Section” and walk to the next floor while keeping your device upright.
- At the new floor level, tap “Start Section” to start scanning rooms on the second floor.
- Scan each room individually, tapping “Finish Section” after each one, and “Add Section” to continue to the next room.
- After capturing all floors and rooms, tap “Finish Scan”.
- Good job! Your part of the work is done. Now, it is our turn to upload a 3D room model to the Metaroom’s cloud. Please keep the Metaroom Scan App open while the model is uploaded. Depending on the scan size and the quality of your Internet connection, it will take a couple of minutes.
- Once the 3D model is uploaded, you can access it from:
- Metaroom Scan App -> Synced Scans;
- Metaroom Workspace -> Projects.
Keep in mind: To scan a new room or floor, first tap “Add Section”, then move to the desired location. Once there, tap “Start Section” to begin scanning. Following this order is important – it helps the app better understand your position, resulting in more accurate stitching of all rooms and floors in the final 3D model.
