With AI-assisted instance segmentation, Metaroom® users can now add unidentified 3D elements to the 3D room model faster and more efficiently. Here are the two ways to create 3D elements from Scan Frames in the Metaroom platform:
- Snapshots: extract 3D elements from manually captured Snapshots.
- All Scan Frames: Add 3D elements from the automatically captured Scan Frames during the scan.
You can also select the geometrical form for newly inserted 3D element:
- Box: Use “Create Box” mode when it’s important to display the 3D dimensions of the element. For example, if you need to add a column to a room, the box mode is ideal.
- Surface: Use “Create Surface” mode when you need to add flat elements to other surfaces, especially if the element has a complex geometry like an irregular polygon. For instance, if you need to add a luminaire to the ceiling, the surface mode is the best choice.
It is also now possible to review and interact with Related Frames that were automatically captured during the scan.
In the Frame Interaction sidebar, you’ll find the selected Scan Frame and Related Frames, which show different perspectives of the same location. You can select the same element from multiple Related Frames to create 3D box elements.
Additionally, you can assign an IFC class type to the newly created 3D element to ensure its proper utilization by other CAD software.
Please note that displaying All Scan Frames in 3D room models is available starting from 21.05.2024 and is ONLY possible with newly scanned spaces.
How to add 3D elements from manually captured Snapshots?
- Open your scanned 3D model in Metaroom platform.
- Navigate to the top of the 3D model and click the “Snapshot” icon to display markers.
- Click on a Snapshot marker in the 3D model to display the frame in the Frame Interaction sidebar.
- Choose the 3D geometry you want to create from the frame:
- Create Box: Interact with one or more frames to create a new 3D box element. For accurate 3D reconstruction in real dimensions, it’s recommended to select the element from multiple Scan Frames. Start by selecting the element from the main Scan Frame and then also select it from the Related Frames. Segmentations will be aggregated across these frames.
- Create surface: Interact with one frame to create a new 3D surface element.
- Click on the element you want to extract from the frame.
- The instance segmentation system will outline the object on the frame. To modify the selected area:
- Press and hold SHIFT to add additional areas to the currently segmented area.
- Press and hold ALT to remove specific parts of the selected area.
- Once the selected area is correct, you can optionally name and assign an IFC type in the Frame Interaction sidebar:
- Element Name: Type the name of the element to be displayed in the Model Tree.
- IFC Type: Type the IFC element name or click the drop-down icon to select from the available IFC types.
- Click “Save 3D element” to add the 3D element to your 3D model.
How to add 3D element from automatically captured Scan Frames?
- Open your scanned 3D model in Metaroom platform.
- Navigate to the left sidebar and click the “Scan Frames”.
- Click on “All Scan Frames” to open the list of all automatically captured Scan Frames.
- Click on any frame in the list to open the Frame Interaction sidebar.
To adjust the selected area:
- Press and hold SHIFT to extend the selected area.
- Press and hold ALT to reduce the selected area.
