Plans change, and Metaroom® is here to adapt with ease! When you’ve scanned multiple rooms or entire buildings and need to export a specific room for your light planning software, we’ve got you covered.
Understanding the nuances of exporting 3D models to Relux Desktop can significantly enhance your project’s planning and execution phases. There are 2 major differences between older scans and scans done after 08.02.2024 (the big Update of the App).
Since 08.02.2024 all spaces fully enclosed by walls are detected as rooms automatically. That is what we call Automated room detection. Scans done before that date will need a slightly different preparation before the export to Relux (see manual selecting and grouping of rooms). This is not rocket science either and you will see that right away when you open the 3d model.
This cutting-edge technology is designed to recognize and split rooms automatically, thereby streamlining the 3D model preparation process. By intelligently identifying individual rooms within a scan, Metaroom® significantly reduces the time and effort. The traditional step of manually segmenting rooms in preparation for RELUX export is no longer required. Only spaces fully enclosed by walls are detected as rooms.
Automated room detection
Here is a step-by-step guide for automatically detected rooms:
- Complete the scan with your Apple Pro device and Metaroom® App, then head to Metaroom® Studio.
- Navigate to your desired room and click on export.
- Select RELUX Desktop (.rdf) format and click “Export”. The Relux export window will open automatically.
- If you expand the model tree, you will see that Metaroom has already detected and grouped rooms within your 3D model. Here are some shortcuts to move the 3D model in the scene:
- To rotate the model, hold down the left mouse button and drag;
- If you want to move the model, use the right mouse button and drag the model to your preferred position;
- A simple left click on the object like a wall, will select it;
- To deselect an object or wall, click again on the object or remove the selection from the object list;
- For zooming out or in, scrawl the mouse wheel.
- If you want to export some of these rooms into Relux, click on the preferred room.
- Give the room a name and choose a utilization type. Utilization type is not a mandatory field.
- In the opened window, select the utilization type of the room from the drop-down field;
- Write a note that will be visible in CAD software (optional).
- Groups within the model can be shown or hidden at any time for inspection or editing.
- To finalize the export, select the desired room(s) from the Model Tree and adjust the export name in the left sidebar if necessary.
- Then click “Relux Export”.
- You can access the export list by clicking on the popup message or through the menu under Export.
- Once the export is complete, you can download the model by clicking the “Download” button in the Export section.
- Congratulations! You’ve successfully exported a separate room. Open the downloaded file in RELUX Desktop to start planning your lighting solutions.
Manually selecting and room grouping
For older Scans (done before 08.02.2024) OR for open spaces with at least one open side, the room is not detected as such during scanning. Only spaces fully enclosed by walls are detected as rooms. Here, you can use manual selection to prepare the 3D model for export to Relux.
Follow these simple steps to select manually and group rooms before exporting into RELUX (.RDF) format:
- Complete the scan with your Apple Pro device and Metaroom® App, then head to Metaroom® Studio.
- Navigate to your desired room and click on export.
- Select RELUX Desktop (.rdf) format and click “Export”- the Relux export window will open automatically.
- Activate the selection tool by clicking on the icon at the top of the screen and select the walls of the rooms you want to include by clicking on them. Here are some shortcuts to move the 3D model in the scene:
- To rotate the model, hold down the left mouse button and drag;
- If you want to move the model, use the right mouse button and drag the model to your preferred position;
- A simple left click on the object like a wall, will select it;
- To deselect an object or wall, click again on the object or remove the selection from the object list;
- To zoom out or in, scroll the mouse wheel.
- Once you have chosen all the elements that you need for the room (you can see that on the right side of the screen now), you can create a group name and assign the selected objects to it by clicking on the “Create New Group” button on the right sidebar.
- After grouping room objects, you can also add the utilization type of the room by clicking on the room name in Model Tree on the left sidebar:
- In the opened window, select the utilization type of the room from the drop-down field;
Open the downloaded file in RELUX Desktop to kickstart your lighting solutions planning.
