If you need to digitize multiple rooms, an entire floor, or even a whole building, the Metaroom Scan App’s multi-room scanning functionality makes it easy. Follow the same scanning guidelines used for a single room, but continue adding one room at a time before finalizing the scan.
Follow these steps to scan multiple rooms with the Metaroom Scan App:
- Open the Metaroom Scan App on your iPhone Pro or iPad Pro.
- Tap the Add Scan button.
- Follow the pre-scan recommendations:
- Clean your device lens.
- Close doors and windows in the room.
- Open curtains and blinds.
- Move objects apart to help the app detect them individually.
- Start scanning from a clear corner of the room, making sure to capture both the floor and ceiling.
- Follow the guidance as you scan:
- Keep your distance from walls and objects.
- Move at a moderate speed.
- Walk around the room while scanning.
- Keep an eye on the 3D model preview at the bottom of the screen to make sure all walls and objects are being captured.
- Once you’ve finished scanning the first room, tap Finish Section.
- On the review screen, check that all key elements are visible. If anything is missing, tap Rescan to start over. If you’re happy with the result and want to continue, tap Add Section.
- Walk to the next room, following the on-screen instructions. Once you’ve reached a suitable position, tap Start Section to continue your scan.
- Continue scanning the room. Once the second room is fully captured, tap Finish Section. The updated 3D model will appear on the review screen, with the newly added room highlighted in pink.
- To add another room, tap Add Section and repeat the same process (steps 9–10).
- Keep adding rooms until you’ve covered everything, then tap Finish Scan.
- Great work! Keep the Metaroom Scan App open while the model uploads to the Metaroom cloud. Depending on the scan size and your internet connection, this usually takes a couple of minutes.
- Once uploaded, you can access your 3D model from the Metaroom Scan App → Projects, or from Metaroom Workspace → Projects.
Keep in mind: to scan a new room, always tap Add Section first, then move to the desired location. Once there, tap Start Section to begin scanning. Following this order is important — it helps the app better understand your position, resulting in more accurate stitching of all rooms in the final 3D model.
Essential scanning tips
- Keep the camera clear: Never cover the camera when moving between rooms. It constantly tracks your position, ensuring seamless room stitching. Covering the camera will result in losing crucial “world tracking data”.
- Hold the device upright: Always keep the device upright, even when not actively scanning, but moving to the next room. Continuous camera tracking allows the app to stitch rooms seamlessly.
- Close doors for optimal scan results: To ensure accuracy and completeness, close the room doors.
Pro Tip: to get even better results, we recommend enabling Tracking Assistant in the Metaroom Scan App — it provides real-time guidance throughout the scanning process to help you achieve precise and accurate results.
