With the Metaroom Scan App, you can easily capture the staircases in your space. To enhance the accuracy of your scan and make the staircase as precise as possible, you may need to add additional landings using the AI-assisted 3D object creation tool in the Metaroom Workspace.
Step-by-step guide to scanning a staircase
Before scanning a staircase, keep in mind that it should be captured in a separate scan section, just like scanning an individual room. Each staircase should have its own section (1 staircase = 1 section).
Follow these steps to capture your staircase in 3D:
- Start a new scan section at the bottom of the stairs.
- Begin by scanning the nearby walls to give context to the area.
- Slowly move up the stairs, keeping the device pointed forward to ensure the staircase is fully captured. If the staircase width cannot be fully captured, feel free to pan the device left and right.
- At the top, scan the surrounding walls to complete the context.
- Tap Finish Section to complete the staircase scan.
- To continue scanning additional rooms, tap Add Section.
- If you’ve finished scanning the entire space, tap Finish Scan.
- Great work! Keep the Metaroom Scan App open while the model uploads to the Metaroom cloud. Upload time may vary depending on the scan size and your internet connection.
- Once uploaded, your 3D model will be accessible from the Metaroom Scan App → Projects, or from Metaroom Workspace → Projects.
Important note: stairs are initially captured with a default model that includes five steps and only basic dimensions. To add more details, such as intermediate landings or custom configurations, use the AI-assisted 3D Object Creation feature in the Metaroom Workspace.

Pro Tips: if you plan to reconstruct the staircase later in the Metaroom Workspace, we recommend taking Snapshots of each step as you scan. This will help you recreate the staircase with high accuracy.
