If you scanned staircases with the Metaroom Scan App, you may have noticed that your staircase is initially represented with only five steps in 3D Model. This simplified visualization is due to the Apple Room API’s default way of displaying stairs.
However, we understand that this may not be sufficient for many use cases. That’s why you can use our AI-assisted 3D Model Creation feature in the Metaroom Platform to fully reconstruct your staircase with more accurate detail.
How to Create Additional Steps for a Staircase
Before starting the reconstruction process, ensure you have taken enough Snapshots of each step in the staircase, as these will help you recreate the stairs precisely.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Open your scanned 3D model in the Metaroom Platform.
- Find the Snapshot that represents the first step of the staircase in the model tree or directly within the 3D model.
- View the Snapshot in the “Frame Interaction” section on the right sidebar.
- Select “Box” from the drop-down menu next to “Object Creation Mode.”
- Click on the staircase step you want to extract from the Snapshot.
- Adjust the selected area using the instance segmentation system:
- Press and hold SHIFT to add additional areas to the selected segment.
- Press and hold ALT to remove parts of the selected area.
- Name the element by typing it in the “Element Name” field. This name will be displayed in the Model Tree.
- Click “Save 3D Element” to add the reconstructed 3D step to your model.
9. Repeat this process for each stair in the staircase to fully reconstruct it.
Additional Tips: to achieve high accuracy in your reconstructed staircase, make sure each step is well-captured with the Snapshots and that the segmented areas are precisely selected before saving.
