Welcome to your fast and efficient light planning workflow using Metaroom and DIALux. Follow these step-by-step instructions to seamlessly integrate your 3D scans from Metaroom into DIALux for lighting design. When you’ve scanned multiple rooms or entire buildings and need to export a specific room for your light planning software, Metaroom makes the process smooth and intuitive.
Understanding the process of exporting 3D models to DIALux can significantly improve the efficiency and precision of your lighting design projects.
Step 1: Scanning with Metaroom
Start by downloading the Metaroom Scan App for your iPhone Pro or iPad Pro from the App Store. The app transforms your device into a powerful, portable 3D scanner.
Tip: If this is your first scan, check out the ‘How to Scan’ information in the Metaroom Help Center or videos on YouTube for helpful tips.
Step 2: Accessing Your 3D Model
After scanning, the data is automatically uploaded to the cloud. In just a few minutes, your 3D model is ready! You’ll receive an email with a link to view your scanned space.
To access the model click the link from the e-mail or login to Metaroom on your desktop via any browser.
Step 3 (optional): Refining Your 3D Model
Once your model is open, you can use the model tree to view different rooms, floors, and all automatically recognized elements. This provides a clear overview of all captured details, with rooms and open spaces easily identified—even areas with only three walls are detected.
Snapshots and Scan Frames:
- If you captured snapshots during scanning, you can view them for documentation purposes.
- If not, use the Scan Frames captured along the scan path to review and create objects from the 3D scan.
Here you can find more information on how to capture Snapshots.
Step 4 (optional): Adding 3D Objects with AI-Assisted Creation
Lighting designers will appreciate the AI-assisted 3D object creation tool, especially when dealing with complex spaces or ceilings. This feature allows you to:
- Create additional 3D elements (for example beams on ceilings or columns that were not recognised during scanning).
- Add surfaces or boxes with just a few clicks, optimizing your model for precise lighting planning.
Step 5: Exporting Your Model to DIALux
Once you’re satisfied with your 3D model:
- Go to the Projects tab in Metaroom’s navigation bar or export directly from the export button in the upper navigation in the 3D model.
- Select the DIALux IFC export option.
- Click ‘Export’ and download your customized 3D model.
- Open the ifc file in DIALux evo 13. The integration of DIALux and Metaroom is available to all DIALux Pro subscribers with DIALux evo 13.
