While you digitize a space with the Metaroom Scan App, the app automatically captures frames and links them to the corresponding elements in the 3D model. These are called Scan Frames.
When you open a 3D scene in the Metaroom Workspace and click on any element within the model, the Frame Interaction sidebar displays the Scan Frames associated with that element. Each frame shows a different perspective of the same area, giving you a complete visual reference — useful for reviewing the space, adding missing elements, and helping team members who have not visited the site get a clear understanding of it.
How can I review automatically captured Scan Frames?
Scan Frames can be reviewed in three ways in the Metaroom Workspace.
Via Scan Path
- Open your scanned space in the Metaroom Workspace.
- Click the Scan Path icon in the top toolbar to display the scanning path.
- Click on any dot along the path to open the Frame Interaction sidebar, which shows the automatically captured Scan Frames and related frames for that position.
- Click through the dots to browse Scan Frames from different positions in the scan.
Via Model Tree
- Open your scanned space in the Metaroom Workspace.
- In the Model Tree on the left sidebar, click on a room element. The Scan Frames related to that element are displayed in the Frame Interaction sidebar.
Via Selection Tool
- Open your scanned space in the Metaroom Workspace.
- Click the Selection Tool in the upper toolbar and choose a selection mode:
- Surface / Asset Mode: select a surface or asset by clicking on it.
- Wall / Asset Mode: select walls, assets, or openings directly.
- Room / Space Mode: select the room linked to the clicked object.
- Floor Mode: select the floor linked to the selected object.
- Click on a room element in the 3D model. The related Scan Frames are displayed in the Frame Interaction sidebar.
Please note: the Scan Frames displayed depend on the selection mode — Surface / Asset Mode shows frames related to the specific element, while Room and Floor modes show all frames related to the entire room or floor.
How can I add 3D elements from automatically captured Related Scan Frames?
Follow these steps to add 3D elements from Related Scan Frames in the Metaroom Workspace:
- Open your scanned 3D model in the Metaroom Workspace.
- Click on any element in the 3D room model. The Frame Interaction sidebar will display the Related Scan Frames associated with that object.
- Click on one of the Scan Frame to open it for editing.
- In the Frame Interaction sidebar, select a geometry mode: Box or Surface (see descriptions above).
- Click on the element in the Scan Frame to create a selection frame around it. The instance segmentation system will outline the detected object.
- To refine the selection:
- Hold SHIFT and click to add areas to the selection.
- Hold ALT and click to remove areas from the selection.
- Optionally, add metadata to the 3D element:
- Element Name: enter a name to be displayed in the Model Tree.
- IFC Type: type the IFC element name or click the dropdown to select from the available IFC types.
- Tags: add a color tag for faster navigation.
- Click Save 3D element to add the element to your 3D model.
- Confirm the element’s position using the Transform Tool. Adjust the location if needed, then click ✔ in the Transform Tool toolbar to confirm.
How can I create a Snapshot from Related Scan Frame?
If you did not capture a Snapshot during scanning, you can still create one from the Scan Frames automatically recorded during the scan.
Follow these steps to create a Snapshot in the Metaroom Workspace:
- Open your scanned space in the Metaroom Workspace.
- Click on the room element (wall, opening, furniture) near the location where you want to add a Snapshot.
- In the Frame Interaction panel on the right sidebar, scroll through the related Scan Frames to find the image that best matches the area you want to document. Click on it to select it.
- Below, select Snapshot.
- Click on the opened Scan Frame where you would like to place the Snapshot marker.
- Optionally, enter a name in the Snapshot Name field, add a Tag and/or Notes.
- Click Save Snapshot. The Snapshot icon will appear immediately in the 3D model and be added to the Model Tree.
- Click the Save icon in the upper toolbar to save your changes to the 3D scene.
